What story from your first project will you be revisiting for Project 2? What medium will you be using to tell that story? Why have you chosen this medium? Why do you think I have assigned this project in the way that I have?
This takes the place of the blog post on the syllabus for Friday, February 19. Concentrate instead on the reading for Friday (DK handbook, p. 186-191, 212-225).
The story I am using for the second project is the birth of my daughter. I have decided to retell it as a comic book. When we first started talking about this project in class doing a comic book was the first thing I crossed off the list of options because I just don't like comic books. I came close to doing the topiary medium, just because I like a challenge, but after thinking about it, I thought that a comic book would be the best medium to use (and also the most practical). I feel that there is alot of humor in having a baby, not so much at the time, but looking back on it there is. I felt that I would be able to best show the humor part of it in comic book form. As far as difficulties that I think I'll have is just finding the time to put into this project. I'm ok at drawing, but it is very time consuming, other than that I'm looking forward to seeing how it will turn out.
ReplyDeleteI'm assuming this project was assigned to show that you can get a point across in many ways, not just with pen and paper like we did with the first project. This project will allow us to explore our creativity.
I've yet to decide on what story to altar to a new medium or what medium I'm going to use. Frankly, I am very under confident in my creative ability. I fear that no matter what I choose or how I choose to do it, it will come out lackluster and my grade will suffer for it. I can't draw worth a damn, I can not write creatively to save my life, I don't like being on video or in pictures, etc. Why you chose this assignment is beyond me, but if I were to venture a guess, I would say that you wanted to show us that the writing system you (or the colleges) are trying to teach us to use is actually used in almost every medium available and that we are to learn this by using it in another form other than essay writing.
ReplyDeleteProject 2, I believe, will be a little challenging. First, I do not know whether to write about what I'm going to do, or what I have done. Second, by choosing two to three mediums to tell the story, have I chose the right ones?
ReplyDeleteI will be revisiting the supernatural interest from my first paper. This time i will be combining two particular stories that have similarities and differences. I have chose the mediums FLASH FORWARD television show and The Legacy of Kain Video Game Series, because...well, that'll be in the paper. XD
I will argue about the differences of fate and freewill, choice and scripted, bound and unbound, predestined and destiny. My other concern is time, since this will told in a magna style comic book. Once this is finished, the comic is to be read from right to left rather left to right.
Because you want us to see our creativity or challenge it to its fullest extent. Could it be your pushing us to push our imaginations?
For project 2, I am unsure what story or what medium I am going to use. I was not in class last Friday so I am a little unsure what is exactly expected. Plus, I can not draw and am very uncreative. I think I am going to tell my story about my uncle. I am afraid, however, that whatever I do will not do the story justice. I think you assigned this project the way you do to get us thinking about creative ways to tell our stories. This is a writing class. It will give us a chance to think creatively about our stories and bring our stories to life.
ReplyDeleteI am between the stories of my experience with cancer and my internship with musica. Each of these things have shaped my life most significantly but I don't know which one I would feel more comfortable trying to tell in a different medium. The three mediums I have came down too are either a song, a picture slideshow, or a podcast. I'm not a very good visual artists so i'm trying to stay away from those types of mediums. I feel project 2 is going to be challenging for me up until I figure out exactly what experience and medium i'm going to do. I'm really hoping after going over my options and ideas with our conference on Monday i'll be set in the direction I want to go for this project. I'm excited to see the turn out.
ReplyDeleteFor the second project I'm not really sure what story i am going to choose maybe the one of getting my dog. As for the medium I'll use perhaps a comedy or dramatize it in a picture slide show. I chose this because I am not really creative but can work powerpoint to a certain degree, not well but hopefully good enough. Some difficulties could be trying to make the arguement because it is my story so it will be hard to argue why it should be different. I think you chose this to show our creativity and to show us that any story can be twisted around and backed up to seem true. Also, to show us we need to only believe reliable sources when we research and see who wrote it, and for us to see if we believe it is a reliable writer for our subject.
ReplyDeletei feel like the second project is going to be really difficult for me. i want to use the story of me getting expelled from high school in my sophomore year and having to move to a whole new one. i have no idea which medium i will use but im thinking maybe a picture slideshow. however i have no idea what i would take pictures of to tell the story or how many pictures to use. i think this medium would work best to explain my story is because i could show alot of detail and help you get a clearer story of what actually happened. the problem is im not very creative and would have trouble thinking about what to include in pictures or how to take them.i belive that the reason or meaning of this assignment is to show us how the use of other mediums could alter the story were telling and what ways work best for the type of story were telling
ReplyDeleteI am clueless on what story to use for project two. In project one I used stories that weren’t very happy so I wanted to think of another story in my life that I really enjoyed. I don’t know what medium I will use… probably pictures or something because I am good at scrapbooking and using pictures to tell stories. I kind of want to write about high school in pictures because high school in general has been my greatest experience. I have had the best times of my life (and the worst times) in high school. I can’t really point out just one event because there’s not many that stick out rather then all of my experiences together. I think that using the whole four years will be too much to put into one story. I am already having difficulties thinking of what to write about! I kind of have an idea of what to do but I’m not quite sure how it would work for this project. I think that this was chosen for a project because it will bring out people’s creative side. Personally, I have no creative side in my opinion.
ReplyDeleteFor project two I'm starting to go back and forth on which topic I would like to use. Currently I am stuck between my current altimatum and my senior dance performance. Originally I wanted to make a video of my paragraph so I can visually enhance the effect of that peformance on me and the importance of dance in my life. Here in lies the problem I'm not sure how to make the video because at school I would have had the means and the setting to make the video, now my resources are sparce. In order to be able to get a similar effect I figured a slide show may have the similar effect. Now that I have thought this out I more on here I believe I will stick with my senior dance performance. As far as arguments go they will be based around how dance is a visual at that can only best be described in that sense, also I will add some words to further support the impact dance had on me, and I will further show current shots of me dancing to so the effect dance has on me now. The challenging aspects of this project would be arranging my slideshow just right to get the effect I wanted in a movie and trying to balance out my creativity with the deffensive paper I have to provide as well. I do not want on part of the project to suffer over the other. I have no other concerns for this project currently. I believe you have set p this project like this to give us something we care about to argue/support in an essay where as we may not have cared about another topic, as well as your attempt to show us the different mediums that words/essays ould be extpressed in.
ReplyDeleteProject two is going to be very difficult. Honestly I’m not sure what story to use. I’ll most likely go with my swimming story because it means the most to me. And I want to make a stop-motion video, which is basically making a video out of thousands of pictures. This has been one of my favorite mediums and I think it could be really cool if I could figure out how to tell the story. Obviously my difficulties are choosing how to tell the story, and a stop-motion video will take a long time to complete, in order for it to be a reasonable length (over 3 minutes) it’ll have to include over 1000 pictures. I think you assigned this so we could explore out creativity outside writing, while still writing, if that makes any sense.
ReplyDeleteThe event in my life I have chosen to do for project two is not one of the three events I wrote about in project one. I prefer to do a different incident because out of the three even I wrote about originally none of them where that interesting, or ones I would choose to elaborate on through a remake of a story. When pondering on what in my life has been a significant event it was a bit of a challenge, but after much thought I decided to go with something slightly humorous. The first time I took my drivers test I failed due to lack of preparation and my own ignorance. I have decided that through a movie I am going to do a reenactment of my failure and the events that led up to it. Creating a film seemed like the best medium for the retell of this story considering I already own a video camera, my art skills are lacking, and when it comes to cutting shrubbery it is not my area of expertise. Most of my experiences throughout life are filled with; “you just had to be there” moments, so I believe that the best method to bring the audience to this experience would be through the visual aid of a film. Additionally sometimes it is difficult to fully grasp and understand situations through words so my hope is that the film will show a better story then words itself. The biggest difficulty I believe I will encounter is the ability to shoot from inside the car, as well as getting my friends serious enough to perform in this, without acting like idiots. I am slightly concerned that my arguments are currently not strong enough to write a decent argument essay, but my hope is that during my conference, Mr. Sabo can help me build a stronger case. Assigning this project was done not just so we look at English and story telling through a different perspective, but more importantly teach us how to write a strong persuasive/ argument paper. By learning to write with confidence students will appear more legitimate and their opinions will hold greater value.
ReplyDeleteFor project to I am choosing to do my second story about going to state. For the new medium I well create a slideshow to help the story take place. I think this will be a little difficult but fun at the same time. Going back and looking at all those pictures and re-visiting all those memories will make the story fun and interesting. Writing a new essay will be hard and will be the main thing I focuse on since the new medium is only 20 points.
ReplyDeleteI have not decided how i will represent my story but i have chose to talk about tearing my acl. I am deciding on a video because i could add my own personal touch to it and make it much funnier than it was when it was happening at the time. My only concerns would be if i can do it successfully. Its challeging to recreate something with someone else and no actors. I think you assigned this project to us to have a little more fun in our work as well as to work on other aspects of writing and learning from others.
ReplyDeletei have choosen to do the story about how we won our last home game. I still haven't choosen how to do it yet. My challenge will be picking the best medium to use and how to actually set it up. you probably assigned this project to see our creative side and see how we were gonna step up and complete this assignment.
ReplyDeleteFor project two i have chosen to talk about my father and i have chosen video as the medium in which it will be presented. I plan on recreating a scene from a tv show to help the recreate the moment. My only problem is making sure the actor can sucessfully recreate the emotional impact
ReplyDeleteI am going to use the story about when we beat our rivals in basketball for the first time in 15 years by a game winningg buzzer beater. I am not 100 percent positive as to which medium i would like to use for my story. Possobly a video? i think it would be kinda cool do portray such a intense game of basketball by doing it as a funny video im not sure exactly how i want to do it yet though. Project two is nothing like our other project. This paper is going to take alot more creativity and thinking. And i think that is what you want to see out of us is exacty how creative we will get with this paper/project. My only concern is that im not going to transfer the important parts from my form of medium to the paper that goes with this project
ReplyDeleteI am using the story of my dad dating other women for Project 2. I am going to make a comic book on Powerpoint. I thought this was the best medium to explain the story of my dad dating other women. I am going to use comedy to explain this. I'm not sure how I am going to make the comics and the paper is also going to be a difficulty. I believe you have assigned this project to show us how to explain why we do the things we do and also for us to show you how creative we are and what types of creativity we have.
