Assigned Reading for April 14th.
The assigned reading, the third persuasive argument, was from A Modest Proposal. In this writing, the author suggests that the overpopulation and poverty problems plaguing the king and country side at that time might be resolved by the slaughter and consumption of children/infants. I felt that this was a fairly hilarious satire of a grave social issue and was written to shine a horrifying light on a bad situation, using humanity's innate and instinctual repulsion by cannibalism and infanticide to show that when such a rational, but inhumane, argument is that valid that we need to take a step back and re-evaluate current policy.
