I don't really have any incredibly memorable spring breaks, I never did the Florida thing while I was in school, etc. So I will tell you about this past week during spring break. I host an annual Easter egg hunt for my daughter, her friends, neighbor kids, etc. This year I had 16 children and their parents over. I stuffed 1094 plastic Easter eggs full of candy, money, stickers, and small toys. I also had two silver and one gold egg the silver ones each had one dollar and the gold had five dollars. I always let the kids try and guess how many eggs there are, this year was the first year that my daughter actually won with a guess of 1090. She won a big chocolate bunny for her guess.
The annual egg hunt is alot of work to organize, but the kids have such a great time, it is well worth it. The planning involves not only buying the plastics eggs (I do reuse some from previous years) buying the items to fill them, but also making flyers for the event, inviting people, figuring out how much food to buy and make, and also what craft to do. The kids get to make a different craft every year while we go and hide the eggs. I'm fortunate to live directly across the street from a school, so we use the playground to hide the eggs.

ReplyDeleteDuring Spring Break, many people travel to different places of the world and even to different states. this is a week to bathe in the sunshine after a long and harsh winter.I went to somewhere NOT OF THIS WORLD. This past Sunday we celebrated the Resurrection, or Pascha, in the Orthodox Church. it is a day where it is neither day nor night, while we wait on the Eve of Twilight, waiting, watching, and guarding the tomb. Soon, the whole of the church is dark, with only a little light from candles to proceed out of Hell and around the church which is Heaven. We process around the church, with the priest, or bishop, leading, followed by deacons and acolytes, followed by the Church. We stand at the doors of Heaven.
ReplyDeleteThe Priest says three things to those behind them.
"Lift up your gates, O ye princes,
And be lifted up, ye everlasting doors
that the King of Glory may enter."
"Who is the King of Glory?"
"The Lord, Strong and Mighty,
The Lord, Mighty in Battle.
Lift up your gates, O ye princes,
And be lifted up, ye everlasting doors
that the King of Glory may enter."
"Who is the King of Glory??"
The Lord of Hosts,
He is King of Glory.
Lift up your gates, O ye princes,
And be lifted up, ye everlasting doors
that the King of Glory may enter."
"Who is this King of Glory???"
"The Risen Christ!
He is the King of Glory!"
CHRIST IS RISEN! INDEED HE IS RISEN!
Hell was embittered! Hell was mocked! Hell was overthrown! Death took a Body! Death seized a Corpse! Death captured a Soul, and it discovered God! It took Earth, and met with Heaven! It took Flesh, and met Divinity! It sought corruption, and met the Incorruptable One! O, Lucifer, where is your victory? O, Satan, where is your pride? O, Death, where is your sting? It is here and now that all are with Christ and the thief on the cross, striding into Paradise. Habbakuk, the prophet of old, stands with us in Holy Vigil. In the middle of the night, where darkness is nowhere to be found and the sun never sets do we celebrate the Pashchal Feast. O, PASCHA! The Passover of the Lord! Now the time of fasting has come to an end. Now sorrow is turned to joy. Now I know that my Grandmother, who I was so close to bless her soul, is with our Risen Lord celebrating His Victory over death without end! Now my tears of sorrow are now tears of great joy!
That which we have fasted from is now ours to consume again! And so, let us greet one another with joy and love:
CHRIST IS RISEN! INDEED HE IS RISEN!
CHRISTOS VOSKRESE! VONSTNIU VOSKRESE!
CHRISTOS ANESTE! ALATHOS ANESTE!
CHRISTOS RESURREXIT! VERE RESURREXIT!
CHRISTOS FUKKATSU! JITSU NI FUKKATSU!
