Public speaking is something that i always think i will be able to do well until the day of the speech arrives. it is funny because overall i consider myself pretty outspoken and no fear when it comes to talking, even to strangers. but all of my confidence goes out the window when standing in front of my peers. the reading that was assigned in regards to taking the stress out of public speaking was in fact very helpful, the writer stressed 11 key points that although were slightly common sense were in fact true to over coming the fear of speaking to large groups. the class activity and turning the essay on public speaking into a presentation was ironic and helpful. i felt that the class came up with some good ideas of how to start a presentation as well as how long to focus on a topic for. today Mr. Sabo made me realize how difficult it can be to focus on one topic without getting sidetracked to a related topic. he brought up the idea that no one can rant on just God without bringing in new ideas having to do with God. This realization was helpful in that fact that i now know i am going to have to have a variety of different reason and facts that support my argument when giving my presentation. today's class also brought to my attention how important the beginning of the presentation is, i have yet to figure out how i am going to grab my audiences attention but my hopes is to do it in a interesting and effective way.
