Each group will be writing persuasively on the same topic, which is: "Why You Should Come to Kent State." It is up to you to decide which elements of Kent State life to include/exclude in order to make the most persuasive argument. However, in keeping with our discussion on keeping the audience in mind in persuasive writing, each group will be addressing a unique individual.
Group 1 - Barack Obama
Group 2 - Mohandas Gandhi
Group 3 - Elton John
Group 4 - Garth Jerome Sabo
Group 5 - Condoleeza Rice
Group 6 - Stefani Joanne Angelina Germanotta
Please nobody point out the hypocrisy of my using Wikipedia. I am well aware that I am the pot in this situation.
Keep our reading for today in mind. You need to decide what elements of this person's upbringing will influence their reception of your writing, and what elements should not be a priority for you to focus on. The tone and style of your writing should reflect the relationship you imagine yourself having with this person. Though this exercise is by its nature slightly ridiculous, I expect it to be approached seriously. Anyone intentionally insulting or belittling their subject will not be tolerated, ESPECIALLY GROUP 4.
Each group should spend 10 to 15 minutes writing their persuasive argument and posting it as a comment to this post. Each group will then be required to present their argument, and explain why you chose the persuasive tools you did.
Good luck! I'll be wandering around the classroom talking loudly if you need help.
Dear Gandhi,
ReplyDeleteWe would really enjoy your presence here at Kent State University being that you are an avid political and spiritual leader. You would be a very good influence on the students here due to your previous actions. Not to mention what a wonderful role model you will be for Kent State students. We are on a path to greatness just like you. Just having your words spead across our campus would be a great honor for every student here. We love how you present ahimsa and need more peace on our campus. Being that we are the campus that May 4 happened at, you coming here would put us on the right track to let us happen again.
Kristina Mellon and Sade Simmons
Ps- I mean , NOT HAPPEN EVER AGAIN!
ReplyDeleteDear President Barack Obama,
ReplyDeleteWe believe that it would be a excellent opportunity for you to show you gratitude for your supporters, maintain a good public image in this area and spread your opinions amongst the voters of this area. We are a very liberal state and our main campus is located within a reasonable driving distance of major population centers in the state. Our campus is a place of recent American history, a tragic stage of events that led to the death of multiple young Americans who supported a peaceful resolution to a terrible situation, much like yourself. The students of Kent State are very politically involved, both in voting and political philosophy, taking pride in our open minded approaches to maintaining a balanced town and campus.
Sincerely,
A group of liked minded students and supporters.
Group 1, Red. GO RED TEAM.
Garth Jerome Sabo would be a great guest speaker here at Kent State University. He talks loud enough that every one would somehow get involved in one way or another. His use of metaphors are astounding and he speaks very enthusiastically. He would use great giveaway items, such as gopher cakes, plastic lambs, awesome books, and M&M's. His unique and creative style would be very welcomed here because Kent State is full of unique individuals. He is very family oriented because he talks about how much his grandfather is like Kurt Vonnegut. Based on his competitive nature, you can feel free to create your own sport. If ultimate frisbee isn't extreme enough for you, then Mr. Sabo would say try the "Frisbee Holocaust".
ReplyDeleteDear Miss Gaga,
ReplyDeleteWe feel you should come visit the Kent state campus in Ohio for these reasons. A lot of the students who go here are close to your age and into the same organizations you're into. For example our LGBTQ center which specializes in equal rights and awareness about diseases. Were lucky enough to be one of the few colleges that has that. We have a woman's clinic to help prevent HIV and aids which goes along with your statement "We want women to feel strong and feel strong enough that they can remember to protect themselves." In conclusion this college is involved with a lot of things that are major concerns in you life. Please consider visiting our campus.
Due to your background in teaching political science at Stanford University, we feel that you would fit the culture here well. Kent State University strives to keep diversity as one of our number one priorities. We have a Pan African study program here that we like to bring in strong, well-accomplished people to come in and teach. We also see that you have a past experience as provost for Stanford University, and we feel that your special qualifications in this area would be beneficial to Kent State University who is always growing and expanding. We feel that not only would you be beneficial to our campus but that our campus would be beneficial to you since we're one of the top Ohio Universities with distinguished alumni and staff.
