In any case, please respond to this prompt as a comment on this post:
How would you make this reading into a presentation? How would you begin? What would you add? remove? change? Why would you make these alterations? What sort of interactive elements could improve this presentation? Would anything else need to be addressed in order to make this into a successful presentation?
Make this on powerpoint, not only that, but try to limit this to maybe three or five points on how to conquer public speaking. I would begin by a common joke to ease myself and begin speaking on how people can conquer fear of speaking publicily. At least i will show some videos from youtube or from my own experience in order to back up my fear conquering style.
ReplyDeleteOther than what i read and that which has been disscussed, i think thi would make a good paper. some tuning would be nice.
If I were to make this in to a presentation, I would make a powerpoint and on each one of the slides I would write the ten things I was trying to get across. Then, when focusing on the individual slides I would take time and explain why I think that this is a good thing to know when public speaking. I then would call on the class to talk about there feelings and own experiences maybe dealing with each topic. I would talk about how no one can be the ideal public speaker because there is no right or wrong way to public speak. This was a very helpful thing to look at before our presentations and I really do not want to change in the topic.
ReplyDeleteI would make this reading into a presentation by saying all the good and bad things that presentations can do for you. By stating all the good tips to follow and try not to think about the audience as much and just talk and have fun with your presentation. I think to improve this and make it a better presentation you could add short little clips of a very good presentation and a really bad one. I think I would leave in all the tips because im not a very good public speaker and these tips can give me different things to think about during the speech.
ReplyDeleteI would begin the presentation with asking the crowd how many people would dislike taking my place is presenting the material. Then from that I would lead on to say that they don't need to be and give them the reasons why presenting in front of class shouldn't be stressful. I would keep the ideas how they are and maybe just add the fact that you could think about something funny or something that makes you happy while you're presenting to calm you down. I really thought the other points they had helped me out so I would keep all of those to present.
ReplyDeleteI would take the main ideas and the effect they have on public speaking then do the counter argument. Instead of taking my personal experiences and say my assume that people have had to have shared the same experiences and adress them in them situations. I atomatically get turned off in a more informative how to speech when speakers just address themselves. I would pair this presentation with a power point with catchy sayings and colorful yet plain eye catching slides. The slides will act as my note cards because once you get a look at the slide you have an idea of what you want to speak about because you personally made them.
ReplyDeleteTo begin making this paper in a speech, I would begin by first taking all the 10 or 11 main points and hitting them one by one. Keep the reasons why these points are important or the explanations behind them less in depth but not necessarily "short." It is easier to get the feeling or meaning behind words across when you are speaking than writing, so you really don't need to go on and on about it. A powerpoint slide with each point on it, progressing one by one would be good along with a slide at the end showing them all and a quick rundown. This kind of paper lends itself well to this kind of presentation, being almost set up like that already.
ReplyDeleteI would put some of the points together instead of using ten different principles. Some of them can fit under the other topics, for example nothing "bad" happens, the point of public speaking being stressful and not considering yourself a public speaker are some of the things that could be put under one point that relate better. I would probably start out this presentation with humor, speaking jittery, tripping etc. just to get it all out of the way to show the audience that the presentation can and will go on and that most of them will forget the "mess ups" at the end of the presentation. I think I would also address "who" the audience is that you're presenting to and how to relate the topic differently to each audience.
ReplyDelete- i would make this reading into a presentation by talking about the most important points to me listed in this paper. i would include the ones about overthinking yourself and knowing too much and the humor because i think humor helps presentations. another point i would include would be public speaking is NOT that stressful and then talk about how to prepare to make yourself ready for the presentation.
ReplyDelete- i wouldnt bring in the point about not considering yourself a public speaker i think you need some type of confidence about yourself and this would help telling yourself you CAN do it.
- i would make these changes becasue if i talked about every principle in the presentation if its supposed to be 5 minutes i think i would exceed and it would become boring and to some it would be something that most have already heard
- i would use examples in the presentations
I would change this reading into a presentation by making it a little more interesting. It is kind of just information written down under bullet points and for the presentation I would need to add things to grab the audiences attention and make it semi interesting so they are not falling asleep from just reading off this information. I would probably take out the points that are similar and just put them together to keep the presentation interesting and not three hours long. It needs to have more things that aren't known already by everyone listening to this I would need to add more interesting info.
ReplyDeleteif i was to make this reading into a presentation i would maybe start with a joke because as suggested in the reading showing humility and humor about perhaps being nervouse humanizing the public speaker. i would outline the top criterias for public speaking at the begining of the speech and then go into further detail of each. i would probably not emphises that the less work you put into it the worse your speech will be because i do believe that people might mistake that idea as not having to be prepared. i would perhaps include that involving the audience is a good way to get their attention and i really agree that the audience does want the public speeker to be successful
ReplyDeleteI would classify the Principles as main points and then support the principles with key facts and ideas. I would start by making an introductive paragraph and thesis. I wouldn't change anything because overall this was a good source for knowing what to do for a presentation and some of the stressful things you may come across while public speaking. I would say that adding humor to the presentation because as stated in the article, that can go a long way. No matter how much you try to avoid the stress and make sure you know the key principles, you will instinctively fall back on the stress- producing patterns.
ReplyDelete- i would have bullet points on a note card, and know strong supporting details in my head to go along with bullet points
ReplyDelete-I would begin with a strong opening statement to get my audiences attention
-i would have much less filler in a 5 minute presentation than i would in a paper
I would give direct examples for all of the principles and delete some of the stuff that isn't as important. also try to relate these principles to the viewers so they can easily take from the presentation and use the principles themselves.
ReplyDeleteWell, I think that speaking about good public speaking is a funny thing to do because if you make a mistake you look like an idiot because you’re trying to tell people how to speak well. Like for principle #2 you don’t have to be brilliant or perfect, you just need to know what you’re talking about. So if you’re talking about public speaking make sure you know what you’re talking about. Presenting about it, it is good to use examples so people know what you’re talking about. Examples of other “good” presentations probably need to be addressed because how does anyone know what “good” speaking is if they are hearing a presentation about good speaking.
